Lightscribe
LightScribe is a technology that uses a special disc drive, special media, and label-making software to burn labels directly onto CDs and DVDs. Because the labels are laser-etched—not printed—there’s no ink, no smudging, and no peeling. Your labels can be whatever you want them to be. Create one-of-a-kind designs with your own photos, text, and artwork using your label-making software.
Once you create your design, be sure to follow these three steps:
What is required?
You must have a LightScribe-enabled disc drive (either built into your desktop or notebook PC or an external drive). To see if you have a LightScribe-enabled disc drive, look for the LightScribe logo. Some drives may not have this label, in this case please visit the website of your disc drive’s manufacturer. Now that you have the LightScribe enabled drive you will need the LightScribe System Software (LSS), which is similar to a driver. IF it is not already installed, Ashampoo Cover Studio 2 helps you to do this.
How to proceed?
Enable the checkbox in front of Disc, select the option Lightscribe (s. picture below) and click on Next. will now check if the Lightscribe software is already installed. If this is the case, Ashampoo Cover Studio 2 will continue as usual and you can create your covers and folders in the normal way.
If If it isn’t installed Ashampoo Cover Studio 2 will open a browser with the following website: http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/ . Choose your operating system and download the Lightscribe System Software (LSS). Please install this setup and your system will be ready for Lightscribe from now on. Please click at Next after the installation to proceed.
How does it work?
The laser inside a CD/DVD disc drive with Lightscribe technology focuses light energy onto a thin dye coating on the label side of the disc. Only Lightscribe media has this special coating. The light from the laser causes a chemical change in the dye coating that shows up on the disc. The Lightscribe burning engine will be activated after you’ve already designed your covers and folders. Take a closer look at the preview menu (s. picture below). Click here on Print with Lightscribe to proceed. From now on, just follow the instructions of the Lightscribe System Software.
